 Religious Traditions

Filed under: Thought of the Day — lee @ Feb 7th, 2008

This time of year many Christians observe the season of Lent. Lent is a 40 day period of introspection and sacrifice between Ash Wednesday when we are reminded that we were made from dust and that we will return to dust; and Easter which is the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. I think that this is a great opportunity for everyone regardless of religious beliefs. Many people choose to give up something small like candy or pledge to avoid fast food during this time period. Some others do more significant acts of sacrifice but even small sacrifices can be good reminders for us to work on some self improvement. This year during Lent, I am going to faithfully read and write each day which should be routine for me but is often a struggle. I hope that this sacrifice will help me to think about how fortunate I am and remind me that helping others is an important life goal for me. I hope you can use this time to think about your life and to learn a little more about why you are here. Forty days is a short time period, but long enough for great things to happen. I wish you the best.
